A
few months ago I went to my laryngologist, Dr. Warren Line of North
Hollywood, for a checkup. Here is a picture of my (healthy) vocal
cords! (Click to see larger photo )
Look for my article "The Instrument Inside" in the May 2001 issue
of Onstage Magazine ...
the June issue will have a longer piece on hearing loss and the
newest gizmos to help keep musicians' ears out of danger.
I'll be in Philadelphia in mid-June, presenting a formal paper
at the 30th Annual Voice Symposium. Full schedule coming soon at www.voicefoundation.org.
Then it's back to Southern California for the annual Summer Solstice
Folk Music Festival, in Agoura, June 22-24. I'll lead vocal warmups,
rounds, and women's songs, and MC the day stage. This is a terrific,
participatory festival with crafts for the kids, folk and square
dancing, and classes in instruments from pennywhistle to psaltery.
For Festival details go to www.mitcsc.org.
Still in the works: a recording of Catskill Mountain folk music,
done in Woodstock NY during 2000, in which I humbly joined the
company of Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Jay Unger & Molly Mason,
Eric Weissberg, and other folk music luminaries. The music came
from a collection researched by my father, Norman Cazden and his
colleague Herb Haufrecht. Producer Geoff Kaufman has finished the
mix and we're still waiting to hear whether Smithsonian/Folkways
will release it ... in the meantime, here's a picture of me with
Pete, a lifelong family friend and hero.
